Let’s Make the Most of Fall
Autumn is so beautiful and unique, but unfortunately very fleeting. That’s why there’s nothing left to do but go all-in while it lasts! This season we’re spicing it up by bringing you not only amazing fall recipes, but also autumnal decorating and events content over on our Miscellaneous Adulting page!
Cooking can be hard during a busy week, so here are our favourite 1 Hour recipes!
It’s finally squash season and this delicious, hearty, flavourful brown rice bowl packs a punch with its heavy use of seasonal produce. Based off of my favourite lunch sandwich in Boston, this recipe is filling and satisfying with its sourdough croutons, warm brie, and spicy-maple-roasted delicata squash!
Shakshuka is the quintessential midweek meal: it’s fast, it’s easy, and it uses very few perishable ingredients. This satisfying North African dish is the perfect way to satisfy you and keep you feeling full after a long day. In our twist on the tradition recipe, we’ve incorporated artichoke hearts, sun dried tomatoes, and avocado to help get a little extra nutrition and flavour into your meal! With the combination of deep, rich tomato sauce alongside the perfectly poached eggs, we can’t think of a better way to spend a chilly night.
Every year, gingerbread cookies dominate the holiday scene. The unsung hero of Christmas desserts is a heavily spiced gingerbread loaf with a large scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. This loaf is infused with ginger, orange, zest, and bourbon, the perfect combination to warm you inside and out on a cold snowy night. This moist cake is made only better with the strong winter spices that come through with every bite!
Few things in this world are as impressive and as delicious as a homemade pesto. This arugula pesto takes a twist on the classic we all know and love, bringing in the sharpness of lemon zest, the natural sweetness of tomatoes, and the floral depths of sumac. This dish is easy, satisfying, and takes less than 45 minutes to create a heartwarming dish full of complex, balanced flavours. And topped with feta? What more could you ask for?
This moist, rich cake combines everything you love about an olive oil cake with the lightness of a sponge-cake. Our take on a classic Italian ricotta cake, this lemon & yogurt cake is the perfect pairing for your morning coffee. With notes of honey, almond, and lemon, it’s both refreshing and comforting. And of course, not too sweet to keep from accidentally eating the whole thing in one sitting!
This Roasted Beetroot Hummus adds another layer of depth and richness to everything you already love about fresh hummus. It’s smooth, creamy, and packed full of flavour! While a lot of people see hummus as a mysterious paste that just comes from the supermarket, we hope to show you how easy and delicious it is to make the autumnal hummus of your dreams for a fraction of the price of the store-bought equivalent!
There’s no better celebration of a new seasonal than by utilizing in-season ingredients. The Cinnamon Fig Latte is a cozy, warming drink for your cold, foggy mornings. The perfect balance of subtle and strong, this syrup will level up whatever coffee you’re drinking right now. The natural honey-like sweetness of a fig paired with its own nuttiness is only elevated by the warmth of good cinnamon. Why not spice up your coffee routine and give it a try!
As the air gets crisp, we thought there was no better time to lean into the first cozy meal of autumn. The pumpkin & goat cheese risotto is the epitome of a rainy day meal by being rich, creamy, and low effort. Although risottos can be intimidating, they’re actually a really easy way to feel fancier without very much effort. The spicy candied walnuts along with the acidic microgreen salad keep this meal from being too heavy and makes this a meal you can just keep eating until it’s gone.
On a hot summer’s day, there’s nothing like a bowl of icy noodles to cool you down. The creamy richness of the peanut butter and roasted bell pepper sauce gives you the pick-me-up you need to keep you both full and feeling light.

Nothing hits the spot during summer like sweet potato fries, so we thought we’d try to make them even sexier by turning them into fritters. It’s the perfect topping to a summer salad or pairing to a soup to upgrade your midweek meal! A twist on the classic pumpkin fritter and sweet potato fries.
This noodle dish is the perfect thing for a quick, cozy evening to yourself. It’s got the salt, acid, and heat to keep you feeling full and satisfied. The spicy “meatballs” go perfectly with the crispy, soy sauced kale, and are both balanced out by the creamy garlic coconut noodles.
An easy way to spice up your meals for this week is to add this Coconut Sticky Rice! The rich, creamy coconut gives a new dimension to any rice bowl, or is the perfect side to compliment a main course. And the best part about it? It’s just as easy as making standard short grain white rice!
Meatballs are a nice treat in the middle of the week, so why not make it feel a little fancy? The bison has a gamey flavour that compliments the bold flavours of a red sauce, while the chorizo helps build up the smokiness to give you a more potent roasted tomato flavour. Worried you'll make too much? Just store your extras in the freezer and defrost later down the line when you need an easy treat!
Ready in 30 minutes, this easy, bite-sized breakfast is a great way to give you energy all day with its spinach and sun dried tomato base. The crispy bacon perfectly compliments the runny egg yolk, and is only enhanced by the baked feta topping the whole thing. It’s a low effort, high reward breakfast that’s perfect for a weekend or weekday! And did we mention it’s only about $1 per serving?
The beauty of a good carbonara is in it's simplicity. Luckily for us, that makes it the perfect midweek meal! With only 6 ingredients(including salt & pasta!), it packs a bunch without being expensive. It's hearty and cozy while still somehow remaining light. This meal takes only half an hour from start to finish and only uses 1 pan! What more could you ask for?
The Lasagna Grilled Cheese Sandwich is a great way to use up your leftovers for a delicious and cost effective second meal! It takes the flavors of a lasagna and combines it with the crispy properties of garlic bread to make an irresistible sandwich.
