Grapefruit & Rosemary Morning Oatmeal
Grapefruit is the citrus of the season and a great way to showcase it is through an effortless breakfast that feels infinitely fancy. The brightness of the grapefruit lifts the fragrance of the rosemary to help give you a flavourful bowl of oatmeal. Ready in 30 minutes, this easy meal is an inexpensive way to make your morning a little brighter.
What are Steel Cut Oats?
The most common oats I see around are always rolled oats, those flat oats that are generally likened to Quaker Oats. Unlike those, steel cut oats are like small, hard pellets, and take much longer to cook. They also keep a firmer texture instead of just becoming the characteristic mush that many people have come to expect from oatmeal.
Grapefruit & Rosemary Morning Oatmeal

prep time: 5 minutes | cook time: 25 minutes | total time: 30 minutes
Servings: 2-4
Ingredients:
- 1 Cup Steel Cut Oats
- 2 Cups Oat Milk or Almond Milk
- 1 Grapefruit
- 2 Stems of Rosemary
- ½ tsp Vanilla Extract
- Pinch of Salt
Serve With:
- Natural Peanut Butter
- Brown Sugar
- Maple Syrup
- Milk of Choice
- Blueberries
- Nuts
Instructions:
Finely chop your rosemary and zest around half your grapefruit.
In a small pot, combine your oats, oat milk, rosemary, grapefruit zest, and salt. Bring to a boil, then immediately cover and turn down to simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until oats are soft. Stir occasionally to prevent the oats sticking to the bottom of the pan.
- Remove from heat and stir through your vanilla until well combined. Divide between your bowls, serve hot along with any of your favourite oatmeal toppings, and enjoy!
